The Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific: An Overview

The Jesuits have been in Asia since the earliest history of the Society of Jesus.

More than 450 years ago, in 1542, Francis Xavier, one of the founding members of the Society, landed in Goa, opening new ways of access to bring the Gospel to the world and preparing the way for future Jesuits.

Today, the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP) covers Jesuit life and service in 17 countries: Australia, Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. We are joined in our mission by laymen and women, both friends and colleagues, who work with us in a wide range of apostolic ministries.

Finding God in All Things

Ignatian spirituality centres on the imitation of Jesus, focusing on those priorities which constitute Christ’s mind, heart, values, priorities, and loves.

A Faith that Does Justice

Our mission today is the service of faith, of which the promotion of justice is an absolute requirement.

This makes the social ministry a fundamental aspect of the work of the Society of Jesus, and perhaps the broadest of all Jesuit ministries in terms of scope and reach.
